  It reminds me of a series of balloon-captioned comedy photo books called “Who’s In Charge Here?” My brothers had them in the 1960s. I remember seeing some in a later decade (1980s or later), and the subject matter had turned … risque. I was disappointed.

  Well, in defense of these “bad deaf” ministries, not all funding goes to these well-intentioned, though badly executed, missions. Not all bad churches are “mega” bucks…some are on a tight budget. Money needs to be spent on the coffee and donuts outreach, the clown mimes, and the cushioned pews. And if you have less than 5,000 members on a weekly basis, there comes a time of tightening the old purse strings.

  Very funny. I once got so caught up watching the translator sign and trying to correlate the signs with the words that she approached me after church assuming I was deaf.

  Many years ago, in Malaysia, the preacher was passionately involved with his sermon, making all sorts of gestures to accompany his words, however, the translator who I was listening to stood absolutely still and showed not a flicker of emotion as he translated the wonderful message of God’s salvation through Christ alone.

  Translation, however well meant, can sometimes be a distraction from the truth of the Gospel and from the tones of God’s voice.

  Having an 83-year-old Mother with hearing aids in both ears that don’t work half the time,I’d like to know where the Brother got the megaphone…so would my Dad!

  I’ll say it’s bad. The guy who said it in the first place has a microphone and the guy repeating only gets a home made toy plastic megaphone. If only… If only we could invent some lind of hand gestures that communicate words and sentences. *sigh* oh, well. Not in our life time.
