Among the many duties of Praise and Worship Leader Barry Wetzel: arranging music, directing the choir, and pointing out parishioners who are off-key during the hymns.

There is a fine line between joyful noise and blessed silence.

I sincerely wish sanctification not only included love, faith, righteousness, etc…but also musical ability.

This must be a very upscale church, as the dress code is strictly black tie!

And I’m sure he’d like a “mute” button for those in the congregation who sing off key…

We’ve got Disonance my friends..and that starts with D and you’re singing in B and you’re flatter than me!

Mr. Wetzel retired shortly after this picture was taken. He had a nervous breakdown due to all of the off-key singers on the pulpit side of the church.

Before I arrived in my congregation as pastor there was an organist who used to stop hymns in the middle (during services) and tell people off for singing them incorrectly!

Needless to say she and I did not see eye to eye and she quickly got the message and gave up organing – unfortunately she also left and went to a liberal church instead.

    Dominic…your gain is their loss.

Barry always accompanied himself by slapping his stand-up bass.

“Off-key during the hymns?” They still sing hymns and have a Praise and Worship Leader? I thought “Relevant” churches only used the sound system to drown out the off-key seekers by the off-key vocalists who can belt it out over the elcetric guitars!

“…pointing out parishioners who are off-key during the hymns.”

Ha, ha, this is why I hid out in the choir and stayed between the two former opera singers. Their voices drowned out my puny little off-keyed voice and no one was the wiser.
