The problem with "a variety of English translations" is that many have deleted many important Bible verses that are in the KJV. I've researched this and NIV, NKJV, NAS, among others have done so and I've seen the side by side comparisons and it's alarming how some changes affects the context.

While it may seem dogmatic and legalistic, KJV is a better choice than these watered down modern versions.

When doing research, I find Young's Literal Translation to be the clearest in understanding the text.

Be careful not to jump on the alternate version bandwagon just for ease of reading.

Saints have been reading from KJV for centuries, it's in the post modern fast food drive through spirituality that has desired skim milk translations.

I'm sure that Bobby's comments (and others' as well) are meant with humor, but on a more serious note: after 13 years in an extremely legalistic church where only KJV was allowed, being able to read the Word in a variety of English translations is quite refreshing!

If you go past the KJV vending machine, those are the quaint little "Test-A-Mints", Smarties and Dum Dums with Bible verses, and then at the last one is the "Best Breath Now" Heretic breath mints!

We've got so many different versions at our church, if we had the congregation read in unison and a visitor came in, they would think that Presbyterians had started speaking in tongues.

I was quite concerned to see the lack of the "Readers Digest" vending machine. It is so much more "relevant" to get your digested version of the Bible, along with "Purpose-Driven-Dribble" and maybe a little Oprah,(or some gardening tips), thrown in!
