Craig,

Actually, I think the three you name are so basic to human community that without them we are left with chaos. "Where there is no order there is no justice," wrote Emil Brunner and I don't see how Warren is approaching this much differently.

I'll keep it short and reveal that as an orthodox Lutheran, I further believe political systems, economic systems and the family are essential Orders of Creation and are the structures God has given humanity to restrain us saints and sinners.

Sigh ... any quick glance through the OT will reveal God is as keenly interested in justice as He is in salvation (the Son) and His church (the Holy Spirit).

Come on Brian, do you really think Warren's 3 legged stool (Government, Business, and the Church)can really unite and solve the world's ills. Yes, Rick Warren is having quite an impact. His goal to bring the church under the mandates of the U.N. is coming along quite nicely.

Joe--I agree. However, if the gospel is "watered down" it is no longer the gospel, but something else. Paul (and others) warned against false gospel and doctrine.

By the way, just "reverse tithing" proves nothing, but that maybe you have too much money. You cannot buy your way into heaven. Preaching false doctrine will not earn your way in either.

Brian,

All those "good works" mean nothing if the watered-down Gospel you're preaching is leading people to hell

Shesh guys, Warren is in a whole different category than Osteen. The man reverse tithes (90%) of all his income, including books and such, PLUS gives offerings to support their international ministries. His congregation is having a major impact on confronting AIDS in Africa by working with local congregations in their efforts to deal with the pandemic.

I've come to appreciate the humor here, but folks I have to tell you your remarks sound petty and shallow. Irreverent is great. The comments above read like something quite different.
