Bible scholar and liberal theologian Malcolm Lancaster reported this week that new archeological findings have revealed that Demas, described in scripture as a worldly apostate, wasn’t such a bad guy after all. “We’ve felt all along that Demas got a bum rap from the Apostle Paul, and the latest excavation has proven our case,” says Lancaster, a member of the Jesus Seminar.

According to Lancaster, fragments from an ancient ruin buried in Greece contain evidence which seem to indicate that Demas never left the ministry, but merely left Paul’s staff to start a seeker-sensitive megachurch in a suburb of Thessalonica. Demas’ church was called “My Big Fat Greek Church,” and was known for its radical lyre band and Greek chorus, plush coliseum seating, and ample chariot parking. In addition, Demas appears to have written a best-selling scroll titled “Your Best Goat Now,” and coined his ministry’s catchphrase, “Discover the Zeus in You.”

Among the artifacts uncovered at the site was a wall mosaic which experts believe depicts Demas hanging out with Bonocus, a hip musician of the day, at an ecumenical event to encourage dialogue between Christians and Isis worshippers for the sake of world peace.

“Demas had a real knack for engaging the Hellenistic culture for Jesus and drawing thousands of people to his services,” Lancaster stated. “If you want to call that ‘loving the present world,’ then fine. But if you ask me, Paul was just jealous of Demas’ successful ministry. That’s why you can’t take everything Paul wrote as gospel… so to speak.”

Lancaster and his colleagues are anxious to discover more evidence that challenges Paul’s inflammatory claim that Demas was focused on earthly things that soon pass away. Proving that Demas’ ministry wasn’t transitory, however, could take several years because, as Lancaster explains, “The artifacts from Demas’ church are crumbled into little pieces and buried under centuries of dirt.”

Yup – that old bag-o-wind, the Apostle Paul, was a bit harsh and premature. Too bad the Lord missed His guidance of His Apostle on that one.

I guess this story ’splains why so many are so reluctant to whisper any criticism of Osteen, Warren, McManus, Shook, Hybels, Schuller, et. al. (Can we still use Latin phrases here? Been outlawed in some places in the UK.) Them “bent tools” just might save someone, dontcha know!

I tell such foolish people that only the Lord is competent to use “bent tools” (else none of the Apostles would have been such), but that we are commanded in Scripture to stick to the Book and not accommodate fools who stray from the narrow path, as they will take others with them.

—great line with more truth than many readers might realize. The descendants of Demas could label “MY” on “their” church, no matter where the satelite dish is planted.

They also claimed to have found ancient “mimes” who had been buried ..”in the box”..nearby. Yep, they were sworn to silence and their story was buried with them.

I love the reference to Bono as Bonocus. That made me laugh. The fact that modern church “pastors” are proud of their associations with him is laughable. Bono is an occultist through and through. Calling Bono a Christian is like calling Hitler a Rabbi.

Bono is listed as a “World Server” here:

    http://www.ngws.org/

To those that don’t study the occult look up the phrase “New Group of World Servers” to find out what I am talking about.
The term was first used by Alice Bailey.

    From wikipedia:

“Some members of the New Group of World Servers who identify themselves as such (i.e., followers of the Alice A. Bailey teachings), meet for group circle meditations on the night of the Full Moon. These meditation groups recite the Great Invocation, and channel energy from the “Cosmic Masters of the Ancient Wisdom” (Ascended Masters) in order to facilitate the unfolding of what Alice A. Bailey called the “Plan of the Masters”: the coming forth of the enlightened society of the New Age, i.e., the Age of Aquarius.”

Yet, another good article. Those who call themselves Christians, but are friends with the world and the likes of people like Bono, forget that makes them enemies of God! It will be a sad and terrible day when they end up Sinners In The Hands Of An Angry God!
Perhaps Bono could sing God a song and make Him all “mellow” and not so harsh.
Yeah, perhaps pigs can fly, too!

If they stay really shallow in their “dig” they will probably find something “Purpose Driven”,the original copy of “Power of Positive Thinking”,a Joyce Meyers diet and excercise guide, several hankies blessed by Jesse Duplantes, and booklists featuring Ken Blanchard from “Women of Faith”.(I think there was a framed and autographed T.D. Jakes portrait, but the Whitehouse needed it for a diplomatic gift.)

Let’s not go too far here! I wouldn’t go to Bono to get Christian teaching (to be fair he doesn’t claim to be a Christian teacher or church leader). However, whether he has saving faith or not is for God to decide.

I would be very surprised if he is sitting in a circle chanting new age/occultic invocations with Michael Moore (who is also a world server according to their website!!!!) whenever there is a full moon and it would take a lot more than someone’s posting his picture on their website to convince me! I mean seriously – he may not be a paragon of sound evangelical teaching and church leaders should not be fawning all over him just because he’s famous but to say that “calling Bono a Christian is like calling Hitler a Rabbi” is going a bit far IMHO.

Bono is of the world and part of the “system” that is trying to destroy the foundation of the “old order” which is ONE God and only one way to God, the Lord Jesus. He’s the bridge between the world leaders and the people. For the dumbed down sheeple, they think he’s something “good”. For those who lack Biblical discernment, he appears to be something spiritual and for most people, hearing the word “spiritual” automatically makes them godly, which isn’t true. Someone can be deeply spiritual, but those “spirits” they believe in are demonic and unholy. Rick Warren appears to be a “Christian” because of the word games he plays on people, again, who are not Biblically discerning. So when the two join hands, they appear to be sound and acceptable.

To say Bono is compared to Hitler, a play on words, one may think it’s an extreme, but spiritually speaking, Bono is part of a system that is destroying lives spiritually. While he may not literally be killing them one by one, systematically he’s killing their belief systems. IMHO that’s just as evil as physically putting people to death!

“Bono is part of a system that is destroying lives spiritually”? What system is that, exactly?
I bet not one of you has met the guy and talked to him about his spiritual life or his belief in Christ. Why are you so quick to condemn? oiy

Please allow me to clarify. Of course, I am not seriously comparing Bono to Hitler. It was indeed a play on words to make a point. However, the God clearly gives us a tool with which we can ascertain whether or not someone “appears” to be a Christian. Matthew 7:16 clearly states “Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?” We also know that 2 Corinthians 6:14-16 says “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and unrighteousness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: ‘I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be My people.”

While it is true that I have never met Bono personally as stated by MM, I can assume that he is not working towards the best interests of the Gospel of Jesus Christ due to the “fruits” and associations that he has chosen. It is in my estimation that the possibility of Bono being an occultist is extremely high (or as I stated earlier “through and through”). However, the possibility still remains (however remote) he is just a participant in the “new age” agenda. Regardless, his fruit is suspect.

I agree wholeheartedly with Carol who seems to understand the true threat we are facing today. I actively study the occult (I do not recommend it to most) in order to understand the plans of our enemy (Satan). Please understand that there has been a subversive movement that has invaded our churches and wreaked havoc on the Christian church over the last few decades. There are some churches that are participants out of sheer ignorance, but there also exist “change agents” in the post-modern church that are actively and intentionally watering down the message of the gospel in order to prepare many for the great deception as written about in Matthew 24:24-25. It is the duty of every Christian to become informed and to be able to discern what is happening before they too are deceived.

C’mon guys, ““My Big Fat Greek Church,” ….. known for its radical lyre band and Greek chorus, plush coliseum seating, and ample chariot parking.”…..?
Doesn’t this just sound like wishful thinking? Are we trying to discern the very first post-modern church movement in a 2000 year old excavation? Give me a break, this can’t be serious. Why do we apply our modern thinking to ancient times and always reckon we’re now more enlightened? Maybe some have already “Discovered the Zeus in Themselves” and are now divinely appointed to so comment on ancient relics. In 10 years time these comments about the excavation will look really childish and ridiculous!
Can somebody even tell me if we’ve excavated the right Demas here? Imagine excavating in 2000 years time and finding something about “George” – ahhh…..which George? George Harrison, George Clooney, George Bush, George of the Jungle?

Over and over I try and see deeper into things. To be honest it is difficult not to get oblivious by shallow nonsence. So this has in reality been a help to me. Thanks. :)
