When it came time for the sermon, the congregation had a bad feeling their pastor would be phoning it in.

    Reminds me of an old Salvation Army chorus, and it goes something like this. Ahem, ahem.

    “Dial 1,
    Dial 2,
    Dial 3 and He will hear.
    For the Saviour is waiting on the hallelujah telephone,
    Waiting to answer prayer.”

    Thank you very much. 8-)

    This message made possible by America’s Pastor, Rick Warren and his on-line resource mill of recorded sermons on wide ranging topics such as “How to Profit From Your Problems” and “Embracing the Vision: The Purpose Driven Life”. Batteries not included – but you won’t need to be paying or praying for a pastor any longer! Just plug into America’s Pastor and enjoy the pleasure of God from your computer or telephone!

    Funny, this picture reminded me of a series taught by Jonathan Falwell at Thomas Road Baptist in Lynchburg, VA sometime around Sept. or Oct. of 2007. The series was titled “iTruths: Life Lessons for the iPod Generation.” Jonathan spoke while standing beside a human sized replica of an iPod.

    Lord, Have Mercy!

    Setting: Saturday night 11pm. The office of Pastor Bob.

    Pastor Bob sits at his computer. His face is aglow as he browses sermoncentral.com

    Pastor Bob : Now that I’ve got all my real work done, I’ve got to find something to preach this week.
    Ah! This sermon is enlightening, I’ll preach it.

    In the background the sound of a printer is heard. Bob organizes the sheets in his worship folder and heads off to bed.

    Hey! You have the makings of a brand new ministry! P.H.O.N.E or Pastors Heard On Network Electronically! Nice going!

    I also saw that Falwell ” sermon” with the life size toys on stage.

    I was as disgusted then at him as I am now. It was contrived, condescendingly smug, juvenile, and banal.

    Like all ” relevant” preaching and preachers.

    This is the new “Connection” church just down the road from me.
    The worse part is having to put in a dollar every three minutes to hear the complete sermon!!

    I will apologize for this ahead of time, but I just can’t resist….The sermon for that day was “Hearing the Call of the Lord”.

    John’s on a roll!

    Talking about seeking for one’s “call”!

    Phone-A-Pastor what a concept! It saves on having upkeep on a parsonage and “pastoral income package”! But the bill that comes when the phone-a-Pastor breaks down and has to call the repairman on Sundays….ouch!

    Only problem, this device is not capable of “home visits” or visiting those in hospitals or nursing homes.

    They are working on a mobile phone a pastor.

    I wonder if anyone else remembers that grand old gospel song from the turn of the (twentieth) century, “The Royal Telephone”? The chorus goes:
    “Telephone to glory,
    Oh what joy divine!
    I can feel the current
    Moving on the line;
    Built by God the Father
    For His loved and own;
    We may talk to Jesus
    On this royal telephone!”
