“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

No doubt your burden is real and it’s crushing you, but there is a way to crawl out from under the heavy consequences of your rebellious life. Please read the following words carefully and take them to heart. This is the loving message of Jesus Christ who asks those who are burdened by sin to come to Him in faith with a promise of forgiveness and rest.

Who is Jesus Christ? He is the Son of God and the Son of Man. He is both fully God and fully man, born in human flesh to walk among us and show the world His righteousness, His obedience to the Father, and His amazing love. More importantly, this flawless, sinless Son of God came to give His righteousness to those who seek a perfect standing before God. In order to accomplish this, Jesus went to a cross and was there lifted up to die in the sinner’s place. There upon that cross, the sins of everyone who would believe in Him were transferred to Him so that he would take upon Himself the wrath of God. This was the great exchange of the cross—the sins of many laid upon Him, and His righteousness laid upon sinners as He shed His blood upon that cross.

Jesus reconciled sinful man to holy God. There is no other way for us to have a relationship with an infinitely-holy God except through the blood of the cross of the Lord Jesus Christ. It was by Jesus’ sin-bearing, substitutionary death upon the cross that Jesus became a bridge of peace between sinful man and holy God through His death. By that death He satisfied the righteous anger of God and appeased God’s wrath towards sinful men and women.

There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus! Justified by faith, believers have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. It was through that death that Jesus redeemed sinners out of the slave market of sin, and redeemed them out of the tyranny of Satan’s grip upon their lives. It was by that death that Jesus Christ has provided salvation for all who will call upon His name.

Jesus Christ has completed the mission of salvation that He came into this world to accomplish. On the cross he declared, “It is finished!” and then He died. He was buried in a rich man’s tomb and on the third day He raised Himself from the dead by the divine power that was inherent in Him as the Son of God. He came walking out of that tomb a risen, living, victorious Savior. After visiting again His disciples and many other witnesses, He ascended back to heaven and is now seated at the right hand of God the Father. Whoever calls upon the name of the Lord Jesus Christ shall be saved. He is mighty to save to the uttermost all who call upon Him.

To call upon the Lord Jesus Christ is to look away from yourself, to look away from your good works, to look away from your personalized spirituality, to look away from your church, to look away from your baptism or your church membership, and to look exclusively to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Jesus says, “Those who come to me I will in no way cast out.” He is the friend of sinners. He came to seek and to save that which is lost. He came not for the righteous, but came for the unrighteous. He is a good physician. He came not for the well but for those who are sick.

He can wash your sins away. You can be clean and pure from the top of your head to the bottom of your feet. Jesus says, “Come, let us reason together. Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be white as snow. Though they be red like crimson they shall be white as wool.” If you will call upon Him, He will give you His righteousness. It is a free gift. There is nothing you can do to earn it. There’s nothing that you can do to merit it. He will clothe you with the perfect garments of His righteousness. And as God looks upon you there will be a covering for your sin. God will see only the perfect righteousness of Jesus Christ covering the entirety of who you are—your sin-sick soul. You will find acceptance with God, and one day when you die He will take you into the very presence of the Father and present you faultless before the throne of God.

Jesus says, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but through Me.” The Bible says there is salvation in no other name, for there is no other name given under heaven among men through whom we can be saved. The Bible says there is one God and one mediator between God and man, the man Jesus Christ who gave himself a ransom for all who believe.

If you don’t turn away from your sinfulness and instead turn away from this good news, there is no hope for your soul. You will be trampling under your feet the precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. Hell cannot be hot enough for you to hear this message, to hear this truth, and to refuse the Lord Jesus Christ who suffered and bled and died upon Calvary’s cross to save sinners. If you refuse this good news, your blood is on your own hands and you will suffer in hell under the torment of the wrath of God. You will experience the fiery agony of the damned, and you will never find relief for your soul.

Today, however, the gates of paradise are swung open to those who heed the call by faith and repentance, that they might enter in by the grace of God alone through the atoning work of Jesus Christ!

Listen again to what Jesus says:

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Why hang on to your burden? Has not the weight of your sin crushed your soul enough? Do you not see that you can never accomplish enough good works or run far enough away from God to crawl out from under the heavy consequences of your life of sin and rebellion?

How glorious it would be to lay down your burden and come under the yoke of the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation! This is a decisive moment in your life. You may never have an opportunity like this again. Come to Jesus Christ by faith in Him. He will receive you, He will save you, He will wash you, and one day He will take you to heaven where you will spend all eternity with Him.

This is the amazing display of God’s mercy and grace. This is the glorious good news of salvation in Jesus Christ. Will you go to Him now, acknowledging Him as Lord and Savior, and give Him your burden?
